Description

Toronto hometown hero Arthur Oskan makes a triumphant return to Thoughtless with his first release for us since his Juno-nominated full-length, A Little More Than Everything.Mining the melodic analog terrain for which he’s best known, Exit Strategy manages to retain his distinctive style while at the same time displaying an undeniable evolution – resulting in a club-friendly dose of techno euphoria.

Between his hectic schedule of relentless touring and production for his own Items & Things imprint, Canadian post-minimal icon Marc Houle somehow found time to put on a clinic with his advanced remix that merges a notorious love of retro synths with a dynamic arrangement that couldn’t be more modern. Trapez LTD artist Shane Berry makes his Thoughtless debut with a lush late night mix that pushes the melodic elements of the original to the forefront while combining them with his own unique flair, while Daniel Ray delivers a dub-inflected reduction that folds hypnotically into bass-forward deep house territory. Portamento finds Arthur returning to the floor-driven style of his earlier Eggshells release, working a tightly wound bass line around spiraling chord patterns and displaced vocals.

Finally, Resting Place exploits Oskan’s dreamier side, subtly restrained arpeggios pulling the narrative forward atop a rather massive low-end that builds steadily into the melancholic strings which close the affair. A master of his style, Arthur Oskan remains one of our favorite artists, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome him back to the label with three strong originals – complimented perfectly by three strong remixes…
